Fix 1: Restart your device.
Before trying the fixes explained below, try restarting the device and router. Wait for a minute or so before restarting the device. This will likely fix the RTC connecting issue.
Fix 2: Update Network Adapter Driver
Running an outdated network driver on the PC hurts network connectivity. Therefore, to fix RTC connecting Discord error, try updating the obsolete driver. There are two ways to update drivers – Manual and Automatic.
To manually update the driver follow these steps.
- Right-click the Start icon > select Device Manager.
- Double click Network Adapters to expand it.
- Right-click the adapter in use > select Update driver.
- Choose Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Let Windows search for network driver update and install it.
- Restart the computer to apply all changes.

Not everyone is comfortable with manual steps. If you are among those, you can try Advanced Driver Updater to detect the PC for all outdated drivers and update them. You can use either the Free version or the registered version to update drivers. To use it, follow these steps:
- Download and install Advanced Driver Updater in your pc.
- Launch the tool and click Start Scan Now button to scan the PC for all outdated drivers.
- After scanning, click Update driver next to the network driver (for trial users). If you use the registered paid version, you can update all the driver by clicking on the Update All button.
- Restart PC to apply changes, and that’s it.

Fix 3: Change DNS
To make you access websites, every ISP provides a DNS. This helps type the website name instead of the IP address and access it. To fix the RTC error, try changing the DNS to Google or Cloudflare.
To change to Google DNS, follow these steps:
- Press Windows + X > select Run.
- Type ncpa.cpl > enter. This will open a new window displaying all network-connected devices
- Right the network you are using, select Properties.
- Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) |
- Click the radio button next to Use the following DNS server address and enter the following values:
8.8.8.8 for Preferred DNS Server
8.8.4.4 for Alternate DNS Server
- Click Ok.

Fix 4: Clear Network Cache on The Browser
If you are running web-based Discord, try clearing the network cache. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open elevated Command Prompt (Run as administrator)
- Enter following commands
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew - Restart the PC.
Fix 5: Disable Quality of Service (QoS)
Quality of Service in Discord communicates to the router about the high priority of data transmitted. This sometimes causes interference. Therefore, we suggest disabling it.
- Open Discord > click Settings.
- Select Voice and Video on the left panel > scroll down to the QoS section and disable it.
- Restart Discord.
Fix 6: Change Audio Subsystem in Discord
Compared to the Standard and Experimental audio subsystem, using the Legacy audio subsystem is suggested. It also helps fix the RTC issue. To change the audio subsystem, follow these steps:
- Launch Discord > click Settings.
- Go to Voice and Video > from Audio Subsystem dropdown select Legacy > reboot Discord.
Fix 7: Check VPN
Discord doesn’t work well with a VPN that doesn’t support UDP. If the VPN you use doesn’t support UDP, disable it and try to use Discord.

Fix 8: Change Region of the Server
Note: This step can be performed only by the owner or server administrator.
To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to Server Settings in Discord > click Change under Server Overview > Server Region.
- Select another server region.
Fix 9: Temporarily Disable Antivirus
There are chances that your security program or firewall is interfering with Discord. To fix it, try temporarily disabling them and add Discord to the exception or safelist.
Fix 10: Use WebRTC Troubleshooter
To identify the issue, go to WebRTC troubleshooter. Though the process will take time, it will allow fixing all the problems.
Fix 11. Restart Discord
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Right-click Discord > End task.
- Relaunch Discord; this should fix the RTC Discord error.
Fix 12: Update the Discord App
- Press Windows + R to open Run window.
- Type %localappdata% > Enter.
- Double click Discord folder > click Update application file.
- This will update Discord to the latest version.
