3 Ways to Fix the Disk Structure Is Corrupted and Unreadable Error

Before we jump to the 3 methods, here are some preliminary steps to take – 

Step 1 – Disconnect and reconnect the drive to another port to check if it becomes accessible. 

Step 2 – Use your security software to scan the drive when you connect it. This will prevent it from getting infected. 

Step 3 – Make it a priority to ensure that the connection established is proper and there are no shortcomings in the same. 

After these 3 steps, if the issue is resolved, the disk structure is corrupted, and an unreadable prompt still appears, try the following fixes!

Fix 1 – Use the CHKDSK Command to Fix Disk Errors

If the disk in question has not been working properly for a while and is showing signs of a corrupt data structure, you should run the CHKDSK command on it. 

Step 1- Go to the start menu and run the Command Prompt as administrator for elevated access.
Step 2 – In the Command Prompt, use the command – CHKDSK F: /f /r /x.

( do not forget to replace the F with the drive letter of the concerned drive)

Step 3 – After the command ends, restart your PC and check if the issue is resolved or not. 

If you are not convinced to use the CMD, you can also try to run the Disk Check via the properties. Simply – 

Step 1 – Go to This PC in the Explorer.
Step 2 – Right-click on the drive to open its Properties.

Step 4 – Click on Check and run the process as per the instructions on the screen. 

Fix 2 – Update the Disk Drivers

Outdated drivers also play a crucial role in the overall performance of the drive. Here are some steps to help you check for updates – 

Step 1 – Go to the Start menu and search for Device Manager.
Step 2 – Spot Disk Drives and find the problematic drive listed there.

Step 3 – Right-click on it and click on the Update Driver option. 

After that, you will be navigated to the Windows Driver Updater Utility. Simply follow the instructions on the screen, and you can update the drivers.

Fix 3 – Format the Drive

If the disk check could not resolve the issue, you might have to format the drive. This will remove the data from your drive, but at least the drive will be functional again. If you do not want to lose the drive, it is recommended to format it. 

Step 1 – Go to This PC in the Explorer.
Step 2 – Right-click on the drive and select Format drive. Format drive option
Step 3 – Select the NTFS option and format the drive.NTFS option

This way, you will remove any corrupt data you might have had on the drive, which will be accessible again. The only downside here is that all your data is lost. Well, if the data is really that important, there is a way you can get it back. 

How to Recover Data Lost Due to Disk Structure Corrupted and Unreadable Error
