How to Troubleshoot Windows Security Not Opening

Are you trying to run Windows Security on your PC, but it won’t launch? Do not worry—you are not alone! Several users have shared their concerns about Windows Security and why it is not functioning properly. Some say that they are unable to run a scan using Windows Security, while others have issues related to Windows Security launching.

If you are worried about the same, this post is for you! As in this one, we will discuss ways you can fix the error and resolve the security issues once and for all.

What Causes Windows Security to Stop Opening

Windows Security is one of the most advanced features of the latest Windows operating systems. Before Windows 10 and 11, users had to rely on third-party antiviruses and security programs to stay protected from unnecessary files and viruses. However, in recent releases, Microsoft introduced the best security measures in an integrated Windows Security program.

While it is an integrated program, it is still a stand-alone application that can encounter errors. Some of the key factors that often cause the Windows Security not opening error –

  • Faulty app configuration.
  • Corrupt system files
  • Outdated Windows version
  • Windows Service issues

If any of these issues have appeared on your PC, the Windows Security app will not work as expected. Fortunately, all of these issues can be resolved, and you can get the Windows Security app to work again. How? Well, check out the next section to find ways to help you finish the job.

Ways to Fix Windows Security Not Opening Issue on PC

Fix 1 – Restart the Windows Security Service

Step 1 – Press Win+R to open the Run search.
Step 2 – Use the command Services.msc to open the Windows Services Wizard.

Step 3 – Scroll down to find the Windows Security Service

Step 4 – Double-click on the service to find its properties
Step 5 – Check the status of the application to find if it is running. If it is not running, click on Start.

(Please note that you can only do so when you are logged in as an administrator.)

Fix 2 – Repair Windows Security Application

Step 1 – Press Win+I to open System Settings

Step 2 – Navigate to System Components from the opened settings.

Step 3 – You will have the list of all the applications.

Step 4 – Scroll and find the Windows Security App

Step 6 – Scroll down to find the Repair button under the Restart section.

Step 7—Use the button to initiate the repair process. Once it is done, restart your PC and try launching the application again.

Fix 3 – Use SFC to Fix Corrupt System Files

Step 1 – Open the Start Menu and find the Command Prompt.

Step 2 – Launch Command Prompt as administrator for proper access.
Step 3 – In the Command Prompt Window, use the SFC/Scannow and hit enter.
Step 4 – Let the command run and finish the process. It may take some time to identify and resolve the issues simultaneously.
Step 5 – Once the command is run successfully, restart the computer and try relaunching the Windows Security application.

Fix 4 – Check for Windows Update

Step 1 – Press Win+I to open System Settings

Step 2 – Navigate to Windows Update using the left pane.

Step 3 – Click the Check for Updates button to find out if there are pending updates available.
Step 4 – If there are, click on Download and Install so the updates are downloaded.

Step 5 – After the download finishes, simply click on install, and the PC will automatically restart.

Other than these fixes, we recommend uninstalling any recently installed application. If the Windows Security not opening error appears after you have downloaded a file or installed an app, there is a high chance that the Windows Security app conflicts with that file or application. Hence, we recommend that you uninstall the recently installed application and delete the file downloaded right away!

Also, if nothing works, you have no option other than resetting your PC.

How Can you Stay Protected if Windows Security is Not Opening

The fixes mentioned above should help you out. However, while you are at it, you should keep in mind that you are unprotected. Viruses and malware today only need a split second to enter your PC. Hence, leaving your PC vulnerable can be risky even while trying to fix the security issue.

In such situations, we recommend you install the T9 Antivirus. It is a complete security program that protects your PC from multiple viruses, malware, and online attacks.

Not to mention, Windows Security not opening can result from a virus attack in the first place. Hence, with T9 Antivirus, you can not only secure your PC, but you may also be able to fix the issues causing Windows Security to fail. Try the application today!
