Proxy Server Keeps Turning on in Windows: How to Disable it

Proxy-Server-Keeps-Turning-on-Windows

Proxy servers on Windows bounce incoming tracing packets that a hacker may use to identify your PC’s information through your IP. Establishing a proxy after connecting to the Internet gives you enough freedom to visit any website without the fear of being targeted by a scammer. However, that is also not completely safe, as the encryption in proxy servers is not up to the mark.

Imagine you wanted to change your IP once and decided to turn Proxy ON on your PC, but now it keeps turning ON randomly. Does that ring a bell? If yes, then you have reached the post you were looking for.

In this one, we will learn how you can disable the Proxy server if it keeps turning ON. We will also identify ways to avoid such situations altogether without compromising your online anonymity.

Ways to Turn Off Proxy Server on Windows

Before we begin with the ways, let us understand when you should turn off Proxy servers –

  • When you are facing network issues and want to troubleshoot your internet connection.
  • When a website is taking too much load or detects your proxy.
  • When you no longer want to hide your IP address and want to use the default network.
  • When the internet speed is low.

A proxy server surely creates a layer between the client and server; however, it affects your internet connection poorly. Now that you know about these factors, here are the ways to disable proxy servers on Windows.

1. Disabling Proxy Settings via System Settings

You can easily choose to toggle the proxy server via system settings. Here are the steps that you need to follow –

– Press Win + I to bring up system settings. open system setting

– Click on Network & internet settings from the left pane.
– Click on Proxy settings in the opened menu.

Proxy option

– Under Automatic proxy setup, disable the option to automatically detect settings.

Click on Setup to start configuring proxy server

– Scroll down to Manual proxy setup and click the Setup button beside “Use a proxy server.”
– Toggle off the slider to Use a proxy server.

This is the most straightforward method you can use to toggle off the proxy server on your PC.

2. Disabling Proxy Settings via Control Panel

Another way to prevent the proxy server from turning ON is toggling it off via the Control Panel.

– Open the run search box (Win+R) and use the command ‘control’ to open the Control Panel.type Control command– Change the “View by” setting to Large or Small icons.view to Small Icons from Category

This will help you disable proxy servers that your LAN connection may be using. When you create a proxy server with LAN, it turns ON every time you connect to the internet after disconnecting. This is also why the proxy server won’t turn off.

How Do you Prevent Proxy Settings from Turning ON?

If you are tired of your PC unnecessarily turning the proxy server ON despite repeatedly turning it off, Windows gives you the option to disable the proxy server settings altogether. Yes, you can deactivate all proxy server settings, removing the option to enable or disable them completely.

Note : If you plan to disable and deactivate proxy settings, please follow the steps carefully. It is better to have an advanced Windows user or an expert perform these steps.

Deactivating Proxy Settings by Modifying the Registry

– Open the Registry Editor via the start menu.

registry editor
– Navigate to “Computer\HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings”  in the Registry Editor.

Windows Current Version Internet Settings in registry editor

– Right-click on “Internet Settings” and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.New DWORD (32-bit) Value selected after right clicking internet setting– Name the new DWORD as ProxySettingsPerUser.
– Double-click the new DWORD and set its Value data to 1.
– Save the changes by clicking OK.

After completing the above steps, close the Registry Editor and restart your computer. This should deactivate the use of a proxy on your PC, making it difficult for your PC to turn on the settings automatically.

What should you do if the proxy server keeps acting weirdly on Windows? Alternate Inside!

Sometimes, settings get affected after you have updated your PC to an unstable build or it uses an older version of Windows. In both cases, we recommend you check for updates and install the last known stable version of Windows. Restarting your PC may help if it is a glitch.

However, if you have deactivated proxy settings and do not want to invite the mess again, we suggest you use a dedicated VPN client. A VPN is far superior to a proxy for spoofing IP, encryption, data servers, and whatnot. A VPN can help you maintain your anonymity online without having to worry about any of the settings.

If you plan to use a VPN, try Systweak VPN. It has 250+ active servers that can help you change your region and IP to anywhere in the world. All you have to do is download the VPN client and use credentials to log in and connect.

The application selects the best available server automatically. However, if you have a dedicated requirement for a country, you can choose manually from the servers and connect accordingly.

Using Systweak VPN, you can easily avoid all the hassle. The best part is that it does all the configuring on its own. You just need to install and connect. Try it today and replace proxy servers to avoid issues such as the proxy server keeping turning ON in Windows. That will be all for this post.
