Why Does The Error Occur?

If NVIDIA control panel not showing display settings, it usually means Windows or the NVIDIA driver can’t properly detect or communicate with the GPU or display. Here are the most common causes.

  • If your monitor is plugged into the motherboard’s HDMI/DisplayPort instead of the graphics card, the NVIDIA Control Panel may hide display options.
  • NVIDIA services are disabled.
  • A corrupted or incomplete driver installation frequently causes the menu to disappear.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel is corrupted.

Method to Fix the NVIDIA Display Settings are not Available Error

If you see this error, it usually means Windows isn’t detecting the NVIDIA GPU or the NVIDIA display driver isn’t active. Here are the most reliable fixes that will help to fix this issue.

Method 1: Verify Your Monitor Is Connected To The NVIDIA GPU (Desktop Users)

1. Look at the back of your PC.
2. Make sure the monitor cable (HDMI/DP) is plugged into the graphics card ports, not the motherboard ports.
3. NVIDIA Control Panel only works if the display is connected to the GPU.

Method 2: Restart NVIDIA Services

1. Press Win + R, type `services.msc`, and hit Enter.


2. Find these services labelled as follows.

  • NVIDIA Display Container LS
  • NVIDIA LocalSystem Container
  • NVIDIA NetworkService Container

3. Right-click and select Restart.


4. If any are disabled, set them to Automatic.

Method 3: Reinstall / Clean-Install NVIDIA Drivers

Faulty or incomplete drivers frequently cause this.

a.) Quick reinstall

1. Download the latest driver from NVIDIA’s website.
2. Run installer → choose Custom (Advanced).
3. Check the option “Perform a clean installation”.
4. Restart PC.

b.) Deep clean

Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Run DDU → Clean & Restart.
3. Install fresh Nvidia drivers.

Method 4: Update Graphics Drivers

a.) Update Drivers Using Device Manager

Microsoft provides all Windows users with an in-built driver updater tool called the Device Manager. This tool helps download and update all the required drivers from the Microsoft Server. Here are the steps to use the tool.

1. Press the Windows + X keys to launch the Windows Power Menu.
2. Choose Device Manager from the list of options.
3. A new window will open. You must locate and click on the Display Adapters category to expand it.


4. Locate the NVIDIA Graphics Driver and right-click to view the context menu.
5. Choose Update Drivers and follow the onscreen options to download and update the latest drivers for your card.

b.) Update Drivers Using OEM Websites

All graphics card manufacturers maintain an official website to provide resources like drivers, software, user manuals, etc, to their customers. You need to identify the exact model number of your graphics card and visit the NVIDIA website. You can download the latest driver for your card and install it on your PC.

c.) Update Drivers Using Advanced Driver Updater

1. Download and install Advanced Driver Updater.

2. Launch the app and click the Start Scan Now button.


3. A list of driver issues will appear on the screen.
4. Locate the Graphics Driver in the list and click on the update link next to it.
5. The update process will now begin. Restart your computer once the update is completed.

Method 5: Check If The GPU Is Disabled

1. Press Win + X → Device Manager.
2. Expand Display adapters.
3. Look for NVIDIA… entry.

  • If it has a down arrow → right-click → Enable.
  • If there is an error (!) → right-click → Uninstall device, restart and reinstall drivers.

Method 6: Ensure Your GPU is Detected by Windows

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Task Manager.
2. Go to the Performance tab.
3. See if GPU 1 (NVIDIA) appears.

If not visible, then carry out these steps.

  • Reseat the GPU (desktop only).
  • Check power connectors.
  • Update BIOS/chipset drivers.

Method 7: Disable/Remove the Integrated GPU

On some PCs, Intel iGPU forces Nvidia Control Panel to lock out settings. You can try disabling the default integrated GPU by following these steps.

1. Open Device Manager → Display adapters.
2. Right-click on Intel HD/AMD iGPU and choose Disable device.

Note : Your screen may flicker; this is normal. If the screen goes blank, re-enable it after reboot.

Method 8: Switch to NVIDIA GPU in Windows Graphics Settings

1. Go to Settings → System → Display → Graphics.


2. Select your apps (games, 3D apps).


3. Set High performance (NVIDIA GPU).

Method 9: Reinstall the NVIDIA Control Panel

Sometimes, the NVIDIA Control Panel installation files might get corrupted, or the installation might not be successful. In this case, you need to reinstall the NVIDIA Control Panel. Here is what you need to do.

1. Open Microsoft Store
2. Search NVIDIA Control Panel
3. Install / Reinstall
4. Restart the PC.

Method 10: Enable NVIDIA GPU in BIOS

Sometimes, temporary glitches and conflicts disable the dedicated GPU in the BIOS.

1. Restart the PC and enter BIOS by pressing F10 or Del key as per your PC’s default settings.
2. Look for Switchable Graphics or Primary Display or Discrete GPU.


3. Set the primary GPU to PEG / PCIe / Discrete
4. Save & exit the BIOS to restart the PC.

Method 11: Make NVIDIA GPU the Default Graphics Processor

Laptops often switch between Intel HD and NVIDIA. This may cause the error, and here are the steps to fix this issue.

1. Right-click the desktop → NVIDIA Control Panel.


2. Go to Manage 3D Settings.
3. Under Global Settings → choose High-performance NVIDIA processor.


4. Restart the computer.
