But when the data is to be written past the drive&#8217;s fast buffer it forces more internal write activity disproportionately and the new data is transferred slowly while the controller simultaneously flushes the cache in the background.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Wrong M.2 slot or PCIe generation: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">M.2 slots look alike on a motherboard but they aren&#8217;t wired the same. Some connect directly to the CPU&#8217;s PCIe lanes at full speed while others route through the chipset and share bandwidth with SATA ports or USB controllers. Some slots are only wired for SATA signaling, not PCIe\/NVMe at all.
